Nervous Patients & Sedation Dentistry
Feeling a bit anxious about coming to the dentist? Don’t let fear prevent you from seeking dental treatment. We promise we won’t bite! It’s really important to us that you have friendly, low-stress appointments, and we will patiently address any worries you have.
But if you still find that you’re more than a little nervous during your appointments, we can help you remain calm. We use a technique called conscious sedation with nitrous oxide, a mild sedative that dentists have used for more than 100 years.
What to expect
- We will give you a mask to inhale the nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas), which is mixed with oxygen. It is a completely safe method to reduce pain and anxiety.
- Nitrous oxide is a colourless and odorless gas that produces feelings of mild euphoria and a sense of well being. You will remain alert and conscious of your surroundings, but you will be far less likely to feel anxious.
- We often use nitrous oxide when treating children as it helps reduce fear and anxiety and in some cases eliminates the need for dental freezing for young patients.
If you are interested in sedation dentistry, we would be happy to explain nitrous oxide as an option, and discuss any concerns you may have. When you contact our office, be sure to mention it so we can schedule you with an associate who is certified in providing this treatment option.
