How Orthodontics Work

Orthodontic treatment is designed to straighten your teeth to make them look and work better. No matter how old you are, if you are experiencing issues due to the misalignment of your teeth, orthodontics can be a great way to resolve them, giving you the smile you're looking for.

Our clinic in Waterloo offers traditional braces and Invisalign clear aligners to help you achieve a straighter smile.

While these methods are very different, they both are designed to apply continuous gentle pressure to your teeth over a period of time to slowly shift them into the proper alignment.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces, made of either metal or ceramic, have been used for decades to straighten teeth. In recent years, advances in orthodontic treatment have resulted in braces that are much smaller, less noticeable, more comfortable, and easier to care for.

If you decide to straighten your teeth with traditional braces, you will have to visit the dentist regularly to have them tightened. This ensures that your teeth are constantly under the desired pressure, eventually becoming straighter.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

With Invisalign clear aligners, your smile is gradually straightened using a series of individually customized, clear plastic aligners designed to adjust your teeth over time.

Invisalign clear aligners are convenient in that they can be removed for cleaning, brushing your teeth, and when you eat or drink.  Similar in appearance to custom whitening trays, Invisalign clear aligners are easy to insert and remove, and offer a more discreet orthodontic alternative to traditional braces.
